The science and art of surviving admits, poor staffing, indifferent management, sick patients, irate families, unrealistic expectations and stressed out co-workers – night after endless night.

That’s right. I’m not a “male nurse”. I’m a nurse.  When there is no “female nurse”, why should there be a “male nurse”? (I frequently answer the question “What made you decide to be a male nurse?” with the response “When I found out the prohibitive medical costs required through surgery to transform myself into a female nurse.”)

I’m a mom of two, OB-Gyn, and wife; not necessarily in that order. I love Harry Potter, reading, playing my piano, cooking, and causing trouble. I am a liberal lost in middle America, where people still worship GWB. My liberalism, however, smacks up against the realization that many people are happy to take advantage of it. I hope that people reading this will see something of use in my musings. They may even see docs as humans (gasp).

This blog will touch a little upon parenting, upon cool stuff I’ve seen in my career (all HIPAA ok), upon weird thoughts wandering through my head.

I finished my Emergency Medicine residency in June of 2006, and have been working in a smallish, single-coverage (only doctor there) emergency department ever since.  I have been inspired by my friend Hallway Four and the many other blogging ER docs I have found through her site to begin a blog of my own. 

I am not half the writer or thinker that these folks are, but for you I hope to relay some interesting stories, and for me I hope this becomes both educational and therapeutic.
