So, you’ve always wanted to peak into the life of a urologist….
What…. you haven’t ever wondered?… you aren’t even curious?… Are you saying you don’t even know what a urologist does?
Well, even if you have never been burning with curiosity, here is the opportunity to take a small glimpse into the glamorous and exciting world of Urology!!!!
The basics:
-What do I do? I deal with all the genito-urinary issues of men, and the urinary issues of women. That means kidney stones, incontinence, various cancers (kidney, adrenal, prostate, bladder, testes, penis etc…), urinary dysfunction, enlarged prostate, penis problems, infections, etc etc etc….
-Surgery: yes, I am a surgical subspecialist, and I love to operate.
-Clinic: yes, lots of clinic time. There is a healthy dose of clinic work for most urologists. However, as one of my previous chief residents said several years ago: “we are in clinic so we can find patients to operate on”.
-Private practice: yes. I ended up hating the whole academic world at the end of residency and I love my autonomy now.
-Life: yes, I enjoy having one outside of medicine, which is one of the reasons why I went into this specialty. Not too many emergencies to ruin your beauty sleep.
-Women urologist: I am one of the very few…
